The technological architecture to support the remote monitoring system is based on a multi-tier solution, with a focus on the mobility of the monitored subject and on the interaction between sensors, mobile gateways, and remote care infrastructure. A hybrid wireless sensor network is used for the communication among off-the-shelf sensors and mobile devices.

The use of sensors of reduced dimensions (in some cases integrated into everyday objects), and wireless networks for communication between the various components of the architecture, allows to minimize the invasiveness of the system. The recognition of errors and omissions in the execution of daily living activities relies on the use of machine learning techniques coupled with symbolic reasoning methods based on probabilistic logics.
